A Third Order Discrete Event Method for Continuous System Simulation

This paper introduces a new numerical method for integration of ordinary differential equations. Following the idea of quantization based integration, i.e., replacing the time discretization by state quantization, this new method performs a third order approximation allowing to achieve better accuracy than their first and second order predecessors. It is shown that the new algorithm satisfies t...

Mechanical System Modelling of Robot Dynamics Using a Mass/Pulley Model

The well-known electro-mechanical analogy that equates current, voltage, resistance, inductance and capacitance to force, velocity, damping, spring constant and mass has a shortcoming in that mass can only be used to simulate a capacitor which has one terminal connected to ground. A new model that was previously proposed by the authors that combines a mass with a pulley (MP) is shown to simulat...

Hybrid graphs in modelling and analysis of discrete – continuous mechanical systems

The scope of the paper is a method of modelling vibrating mechanical systems with discrete-continuous distribution of parameters and couplings by means of hybrid graphs. The method is focused on broadening hybrid graphs formalism by mechanical systems and improving their description and design methods so that the mathematical formalism can reflect the essence of the problem involved in the desi...

Modelling Mixed Discrete-Continuous Domains for Planning

In this paper we present pddl+, a planning domain description language for modelling mixed discrete-continuous planning domains. We describe the syntax and modelling style of pddl+, showing that the language makes convenient the modelling of complex timedependent effects. We provide a formal semantics for pddl+ by mapping planning instances into constructs of hybrid automata. Using the syntax o...

Modelling Discrete Behaviour in a Continuous-Time Formalism

Embedded real-time systems consist of a digital controller interacting with its physical environment. Developing such systems therefore involves specifying and reasoning about both discrete and continuous-time components. We show how these two models can be integrated in a timed-trace formalism by treating discrete components as a restricted class of continuous ones.
